library books.
- May Your Harvests be Bountiful, a biography on the Harvest Goddess: This book contains information on the Harvest Goddess and details events like her arrival on the island. It also describes in great detail how she treats the residents and the animals on the island with great care and how she is viewed as a motherly figure who the townspeople used to depend on. She urged them to be more independent and successfully guided them down the path of self-sustainability.
Although humans and animals are beneath her in terms of hierarchal rank, she is quite a benevolent goddess. Despite her motherly tendencies, she also has no qualms with fighting and even taught some townspeople to defend themselves if need be. Her charisma and approach to problem solving have greatly improved the quality of life on Crescentview and the townspeople are forever thankful to her.
She has had many suitors, but she turned them all down after they had lost to her in a duel, except for one whose fight ended in a draw. It was rumored that the goddess fell in love with that person and the two were seen spending a great deal of time together. However, humans live short lives compared to gods and that person eventually passed on as all humans eventually do. During that supposed relationship, her true name was revealed to be "Feronia." While she is also known less commonly as the goddess of travelers and water, she has abandoned the identity completely and now claims to be nameless.
Branching Firstfruits: A Guide on the Regional Gods: On the continent of Natus Ignis exists a god named Feros, the brother of a goddess who was once named Feronia. The two are supposedly identical twins, but Feros had made sure to differentiate himself from Feronia due to his fierce competitive nature with his sister. Some believe he had a complex due to sharing his role as a god of the harvest with his sister. However, while she is the goddess of water and travelers, he is the god of fire and wilderness.
He is believed to possess the power to shift into a dragon and is not afraid to do so to strike fear in the heart of those who question his authority. Despite his fierce exterior, he is actually quite shy and worries about people a little too much due to the occasional prophetic visions that come to him.
He has been known to meddle in the lives of the townspeople on occasion even when they prefer to be left alone. It is rumored that an incident occurred that lead Feros to step back and watch over his people from a distance. These days, he is more often seen keeping the company of the animals rather than people. Despite this, the townspeople respect Feros while maintaining the belief that he is overbearing and a bit annoying.
There are gods and goddesses on different islands as well, such as Tyrrnus who serves as a friend to both Feronia and Feros. Rumor states they have often had to serve as referee between the two whenever their competitive natures put the safety of lesser beings at risk. However, not even Tyrrnus seems to have calmed down the fierce competition between the two siblings after a significant argument broke out between them.
The Kappa in the Lake: Local legend has it that a strange, green man resides in the large lake sitting at the base of the mountain. According to one local farmer, tossing a specific type of vegetable into the lake will summon him, but unlike the Goddess, he doesn’t even pretend to be civil. If he doesn’t outright mock you, expect him to spit a mouthful of lake water directly into your face. There’s also a small section on kappa courtship, but how badly do you want to hurt your eyes? It’s better if you don’t.
The Legend of the White Feather: A longstanding tradition on the island of Crescentview is to propose to your loved one with a single white feather from the Goddess’ wings. That said, one cannot simply pluck it from them, as she often keeps them tucked away. One’s union must be met with the Goddess’ approval before she offers them a feather off her back and the promise of a long, healthy life together.
Misleading Fox: A sleek orange fox is said to haunt the local forest. He can supposedly be found between the hours of 12a.m. and 3a.m., but no one who has claimed to see the fox is around to tell the tale. This book is rather old and frayed and none of the locals purport to know about any mysterious forest-dwelling foxes. Even so, it’s said a fox can be heard yipping late into the night during crescent moons.
Special Rocks: Supposedly, there used to be an old series of mine shafts scattered throughout the mountains, but very little evidence remains of these mines. Some entrances blocked off with rocks are likely to be the entrance to these defunct mines, but it would take considerable effort to clear them out. According to this book, special gemstones can be found deep within the heart of the mines, but the journey to find them is treacherous.
The Goddess: A book penned by the Goddess herself. Her accomplishments are written aplenty here. Examples include helping the island's citizens during a terrible famine, making it possible to domesticate the animals on the island, and protecting Crescentview from harm. Could it shed some light on the current situation? That’s for you to decide. This book looks like it was written pretty recently.
