The mines, once boarded up and abandoned, have been opened back up to any would-be spelunkers to venture into in the hopes of finding gems and treasures aplenty. It is said that these mines burrow deep into the depths of the mountain and no one can tell you exactly how deep they go, but if you're feeling lucky, grab a pickaxe on your way in and find out for yourself.

The mines are a cyoa-style exploration event that can be participated in once every week until the end of the game. Results are determined via RNG and can earn your character unique items, help or hinder them with blessings and curses, or result in bodily injury if they get unlucky enough. Your character may brave the mines alone or bring a friend.

As physical injuries (excluding death) are a possible result of exploring the mines, let us know at any time if you want to retcon your results to avoid your character getting injured. If you choose this option, it will be as if your character never stepped foot in the mines, but you will not be able to participate again until the following week. Weigh your options carefully!

[Who knows? Maybe it is bottomless, because they go plummeting several floors through the darkness, eventually bouncing off of something that, blessedly, saves both of their asses from certain death. Will they be sore in the morning? Hella, but at least they're alive.

It's still quite dark down here, the ground springy beneath their steps, but it's not so pitch black that a flashlight couldn't illuminate this space... if they can find Ellis's. All of their belongings have scattered somewhere in this big, bouncy void. Running around in here will result in getting bounced in the air as if on a trampoline.]

[ At least he can feel something in this... void--oh. He's getting whiplash from the bouncing., but he tries very hard to find his bag. He really hopes nothing spilled out of it, considering it was zipped close. But first, flashlight. He is slowly crawling around for it. ]

Hey, we don't want to lose each other--

[ Uhhh. How is he supposed to talk to Ellis in the dark. Alright, Ellis can feel around for the flashlight, and M-21 can follow the sounds of Ellis as he pats his way around for anything else down here. Any walls nearby he could use as a guide... ]

[No walls, only the endlessly bouncy void! Ellis' bag is... somewhere, probably, but he won't have any luck finding it. As they continue to wander, they'll hear a deep, echoing groan that reverberates right down to their bones.]

[framestory]

[ Ellis isn't doing so great, but even though he's deaf, even he feels that groan. What the fuck. He'll have to ditch his bag and flashlight for now, so he attempts to crawl towards... whatever the heck that was. He's not doing a good job. ]

[ M-21 definitely hears that groan, unfortunately. But they've got nothing else to go on, so he heads that way too.

He reaches out to pat Ellis on the shoulder in warning before he takes the lead. If there's anything scary, he should probably be in front. ]

[Crawling around will eventually yield results... kinda? Ellis and M-21 will come upon a small, pointed cave with two separate but identical entrances. They can enter it if they dare, but they'll need to scrunch down and walk on hands and knees to enter it... A warm breeze emanates from the cave entrances.]

[ A warm breeze...? Ellis squints. He's not sure what M-21 is trying to tell him, but Ellis goes to crawl in anyway. ]

[ He's trying to convey "wow, this seems like a bad idea!" but, well, it's dark. RIP.

If the entrances seem like they go to the same place, M-21 will go through the second one rather than fighting Ellis for the first one. It's fine, right? (This seems not fine.) ]

[Oh dear... It seems they've wandered right into the nostrils of some massive creature, and when it sneezes them out, they'll go flying back to land on its rotund belly. With a bone-shuddering groan, it sparks up a comically large match on the cave wall and squints down at them with its massive, beady eyes. It looks like the other fairies but, you know, significantly larger.]

[ Eww!! He feels so gross and what is this?? M-21 will have better luck since Ellis still can't hear anything and just stays still. ]

[ This is the grossest thing that's happened to M-21 in a minute, that's for sure. Just... going to be subtly wiping his hands off on his clothes, which are also disgusting now. Ugh.

Also RIP to both of them for M-21 being stuck as the spokesperson here. ]

Just a couple of farmers. We got lost in the mines. Where are we?

[The portly fairy looks to the left... looks to the right... then fixes its beady eyes on M-21.]

Where does it look like you are, genius? This is the bottom of the mines. Thanks for disturbing my nap, by the way. Super appreciate it.

[ Ellis still can't see see shit in here, so he finally starts moving around, but slowly, eventually latching onto M-21 and writes on his back with a finger: ]

What's going on?

[ Oh man... if there's not enough light from the match to sign by, he'll just have to turn around enough that he can take Ellis's hand and write on his palm. ]

Big fairy. I'll handle it.

[ Reassuring?? And then proving his point, tactfully, to the fairy: ]

No problem. So where's the way out?

Not so fast, buddy. You've gotta answer my question before I let you go.

[The giant fairy strikes up a second comically oversized match so the two of them can see the string of treasures adorning its neck along a massive gold chain. Mumbling, it pulls a scrap of paper out of its pocket, clearly reading its lines off of it.]

So eh... Which of these did you drop? The solid gold toilet? The 24 pack of sparkling gold-infused wine? Or the silver axe?

[ Whoa!! Treasure!! Thanks for lighting up the room, fairy.

Ellis looks at his choices... and honestly... he points to the silver axe. He has no use for the other two. Also, the silver axe looks really pretty. He looks over at M-21. What does he think? ]

[ ...What would he want with a gold toilet, anyway? Not that he needs the axe, but he's already got a spear from the kappa, so he may as well stick with a theme.

[Who doesn't want to drop a deuce in a fancy golden toilet? The fairy mumbles and grumbles, plucking the silver axe off its chain and tossing it at them. Uh, better make sure your heads aren't in the way, boys.]

You've chosen the uh... right, the silver axe. That means you're generous or something. Not the materialistic types, eh? Maybe you could try throwing it in a lake or something.

[With that, the gargantuan fairy rolls slooowly to one side, revealing a vast cave glistening with fluorescent gems. A powerful breeze feels like it might whip up and eject them from the mines at any time, so they'll have a limited time to scoop up some opal chunks and loose orichalcum ore before being harshly ejected back up and out of the mines.]

[ Opal and orichalcum ores, babyyyyy. Oh, the silver axe too.

When ejected out of the mines, he looks over at M-21. ]

"How should we share? Do you want the axe?"

[feralheart]

[ He doesn't need an axe... But weapons are kinda cool, and Ori might like it. Plus, he's not certain he can responsibly give Ellis and Gaku an axe. ]

Sure. You want to keep the gems, then?

[framestory]

[ Not all of them. After spilling them on the ground, Ellis divides them equally between themselves, but gives M-21 the bigger opal share. ]

"Make some jewelry with the opal for Ori."

[feralheart]

[ ...Ellis is too pure. M-21 was just going to ask for one, wow. ]

You think she'd think it's too flashy with this many? ...But maybe something that looks like flowers.

[ Uh, before he can embarrass himself down that rabbit hole. ]

"Making something for Gaku?"

[framestory]

"You don't have to use all of them."

[ Ellis smiles. ]

"I think some dangly earrings would look nice on her. Maybe earrings in a flower shape like you said."

[ Ellis isn't really a jewelry person, so the thought hadn't crossed his mind. ]

"I'll think about what to make with them."

[feralheart]

"Thanks. Good idea."

[ ...Yeah, now that Ellis says that, he can definitely picture it. They'd look really nice on her, huh? Not that she doesn't always look nice. ]
