mines.
The mines are a cyoa-style exploration event that can be participated in once every week until the end of the game. Results are determined via RNG and can earn your character unique items, help or hinder them with blessings and curses, or result in bodily injury if they get unlucky enough. Your character may brave the mines alone or bring a friend.
The mines, once boarded up and abandoned, have been opened back up to any would-be spelunkers to venture into in the hopes of finding gems and treasures aplenty. It is said that these mines burrow deep into the depths of the mountain and no one can tell you exactly how deep they go, but if you're feeling lucky, grab a pickaxe on your way in and find out for yourself.
As physical injuries (excluding death) are a possible result of exploring the mines, let us know at any time if you want to retcon your results to avoid your character getting injured. If you choose this option, it will be as if your character never stepped foot in the mines, but you will not be able to participate again until the following week. Weigh your options carefully!

Whatever is at the bottom of the pit though, seems to beckon the two over like a child asking their parents to play with them because they found a new toy, not the kind that shady old people ask you to come over to read your fortune for half your income. ]

It's too dangerous for us to leap in blindly. [ He knows caution. In a way, it kind of brings back memories of exploring Orr for the first time... omg it really is an ideal date!!!!!!! ] Luckily, we have help.
[ He lifts a hand, and one of his flesh golems totters over, and instantly yeets itself into the pit.
At least they'll be able to hear how deep it is. ]
no subject
Anyway. He's not about to stop Trahearne from throwing his flesh golem in, but he will tilt his head to try and hear if it's going to splat.]
... I don't think there's any way to get any actual feedback from that, is there?
no subject
no subject
No splat. Trahearne's command over his golem tells him it yet lives, so-- ]
Did you hear that? [ The faint sound of leaves, that is. ] It seems to have survived the fall.
[ Like he's done this a thousand times before, he scoots off the edge of the pit, hands gripping the edge as his toes find purchase on the wall of it; he looks back, and down, and--oh. He feels faintly sick. The sensation of falling off the airship is suddenly vivid in his mind, and--
Well. There's a phobia he didn't realize he'd developed.
He freezes in that position for a second, knowing it's probably fine but he just can't. bring himself. to let go. ]
no subject
He scoots back a bit, starting the entrance of a portal under his feet. You know, in case he needs some help back up. And then he moves back to the edge, turning to face the wall as he falls down enough that he's hanging by his fingers--and then drops. He tries to slide along the wall, gloves absorbing the friction as he tries to use it to balance his speed and not just free fall to a possibly broken spine.]
no subject
But it won't matter, since the two will land on a very cushy pile of crunchy autumn leaves that somehow protects them from getting injured despite falling from that height. No broken spines, tree bones(???), or anything. Well, that's if neither of you land smack onto the flesh golem that's just lying there uselessly. Roll higher than a ten to dodge or you might actually get injured.
Apart from that, there's a 12in/~30cm tall, small brown bear cub that looks surprised when it sees Trahearne and Syrlya land. ]
Oh, no... I shouldn't have asked anyone to play with me.
[ It seems to speak the universal Crescentview language somehow. The voice definitely sounds like the equivalent to a human child. ]
no subject
And so he lands gracefully onto the pile of leaves, second flesh golem arriving not far behind. The bear's voice causes him to whip his head around, regard the cub, and put his hands up in a show of peace. ]
Oh! I'm sorry. Have we disturbed you?
no subject
Which probably wouldn't be so bad were he not, in fact, carrying injuries from only a few days ago.
He rolls away from the golem with a groan, squinting up at the... talking bear. Huh. He didn't think Norn could shapeshift that young...]

I just wanted someone to play with. I got a new stick!
[ It holds up the stick, which looks like any old tree branch. ]
I'm still waiting for my mom to come back with food... Is it okay if you two play with me in the meantime? There's a nice pond over there too!
[ It points deeper into the floor. Surprisingly, they can see dimly glowing lights. Maybe they're fireflies? Why are they in the mines. Don't question it. ]
no subject
I'd be delighted to, but let me confer with my-- [ ... ] --with him, first.
[ He turns to Syrlya, stooping beside him. He fixes a hand at his back to lift him into a sitting position, looking him over for any obvious injuries from the fall. He's worried, but ready to help if need be. ]
Are you all right? Do you need healing?
no subject
[He waves his hand. After that drop he's not terribly enthused about playing with a talking bear. He'll get his bearings for a moment and then maybe try and find what that sparkle was.]
no subject
Here, Mister! Let's go to the pond! It's fun to play in it and you get to see magical things!
[ The cub scurries on over to the pond. It's glowing a luminescent blue, yet the water is absolutely clear. There seems to be alexandrites embedded into the bottom of the pond, but they are not retrievable for now. The cub pokes the stick inside the water, holds it there for ten seconds, and picks it back up and when withdrawn from the waters, it starts blooming cherry blossoms. ]
Do you wanna try it out too, Mister? It'll do something really cool to it!
no subject
He gently squeezes his shoulder, a silent plea to take it easy and to follow when he's ready, before he gets up to follow the cub.
He looks around at the pool, entranced by the beauty of the scene. And when the bear shows him the neat trick, he brightens. ]
How delightful. This place is beautiful. [ He glances back at Syrlya briefly, wanting to show him, before unfastening his own stick from his waist and sticking it in the water for ten seconds, too. ]
no subject
--Oh, the jewels down there are much prettier. If he had his aqua breather, getting them would be a simple affair.]
no subject
I wanna show my mom when she comes back! She loves these the most because when she wakes up from winter, these are the first things she sees in the spring. You should hold onto yours, mister! It looks like a very lucky branch!
[ Blessed by the water from the pond, Trahearne's tree branch with flowers on it now possesses the ability to force a nat20 for whoever holds it at the time. Once only. What a lucky thing, indeed. ]
no subject
Thank you. I will keep this.
[ When he hears Syrlya approach, he looks over at him and gently nudges him, gesturing to the blossoming branch. ]
no subject
But then he's leaning over the edge to try and get a better look at what's down below. Maybe he can ask Trahearne to send one of his flesh golems to try and dig them up, the colors are so lovely...
His grip slips when he tries to push up, that thought in mind, and instead and up toppling forward into the pond. Oops!]
cw body horror
This has no effect on his health, though yanking the flowers out from the body will hurt and cause bleeding (whatever tree people's equivalent of bleeding is) and will leave scars. He can, however, snip the flowers off with scissors or so and the stems will eventually die off and disintegrate. No scars with that method.
The baby bear gasps. ]
He's growing flowers!!
[ And this is why you don't want to dive in even with an aqua breather. ]
no subject
Syrlya!
[ His voice cracks a little. He's about to stick his hand in to grab him but he knows better than that. Luckily, though, his stick is sizeable, and he thrusts that in, just in case Syrlya needs help getting back up.
And when he's on ground-- ]
Are you all right?! [ His eyes dart all over the now-flowering sylvari. Yikes. ] Does it hurt?
no subject
And then something crawls under his skin.
Syrlya scrambles backwards, using the edge of the pond for support to push his top half out of the water with a gasp. He scoots away so he doesn't trip in again during back as he catches his breath--] Ow!
[He pinches one of the flowers growing from his neck and plucks it free, staring in bewilderment.] Oh dear.
no subject
Are you okay, Mister...?
[ Plucking them with stems and all is sure going to leave a mark... It toddles back to the main chamber and toddles back to them with a small container of honey. Surprisingly, it's regular honey. ]
Mom said to eat this when I want to feel better... so you can have some too.
no subject
You're bleeding. [ Concern is thick in his voice. He absently wipes his hand on his skirt, then reaches out again to hold his head, get a better look at him. ]
Syrlya, please be more careful.
[ It's not a scold, just pure worry. ]
no subject
I don't think their roots are deep. I--[He stops partway as he averts his attention to the bear regardless which way Trahaerne tries to turn his head.]
I--thank you, but. I will be all right. [He holds up a hand to decline an offer. Honey is, unfortunately, not what he needs right now.]
no subject
--with a blink of an eye, the two will find themselves outside the mines. The mine journey is finished. Have fun clipping those flowers off you, Syr! ]
