The mines, once boarded up and abandoned, have been opened back up to any would-be spelunkers to venture into in the hopes of finding gems and treasures aplenty. It is said that these mines burrow deep into the depths of the mountain and no one can tell you exactly how deep they go, but if you're feeling lucky, grab a pickaxe on your way in and find out for yourself.

[You approach the entrance of the mines and feel a soft, cool breeze brush against your cheeks. Welcome to the mines, explorer.

The entrance itself is brightly lit by lanterns, a set of rickety old minecart tracks beckoning you down to the first floor of the mines. What will you do?]

Never would've expected to run across you here.

[ Putting on the airs of someone none the wiser, Childe approaches, hand caught up in a wave. Openly baiting a reaction, he's more than a little senseless with these slights, and far too callous for good humor.

But he's suffered the aimlessness of these past two months, and all of this leisure has hollowed him out plenty. Childe lacks any discretion, beckoning between the mine shaft's entrance and Yelan with interest that he doesn't disguise. If nothing else, she should prove to be more enthralling than the wet blanket that was Diluc. ]

May as well brave it together, right?

[ yelan smiles back but whether that's out of amusement at seeing tartaglia or something else, it's hard to tell. ]

Well, well, well.

[ he's the last face she's expecting to see in this place but a familiar face is a familiar face either way. they're also not in liyue and she's currently not on duty, so there shouldn't be any reason for hostility, right? right. that's, of course, up to him if he'd also share such a sentiment.

she walks up to the mine entrance like she does something like this on a regular basis. ]

You come here often?

Is that how it looks?

[ Like carelessness could even fill his throat, he's braving her ire or lack thereof. Glib, he comes into immediate range. All the while, there's still that space separating them, when he's brazen but not brazen enough to stray too close. ]

Haha, not quite. But if we're headed the same way, shouldn't we split the difference? [ Childe sweeps a hand out, overly flippant. After you, miss? ] Unless you're opposed to that.

I don't see any reason why. You don't seem like the kind of guy who would cheat me out of my winnings.

[ and she's not in a gambling mood just yet, though give it time and then perhaps her mind will change with a roll of the dice. she doesn't think he'll disappoint her in that regard, not with what she knows of him.

yelan indulges him with a wave of her hand, moving past him and right into the maw of the unknown while ensuring he's still within her range.

offhandedly: ] Where do these mines lead to?

[ Two bow users, going into the mines... I hope they weren't planning on gathering ores, since it seems neither of them picked up a pickaxe at the entrance.

The entrance floor is very uneventful. It's very much like the top picture on the post where it's well lit with cart tracks... until the end of that floor to descend into the real first floor of the mines. It's pitch black here. Do they venture carefully or run? ]

[ Overconfidence assures that he won't grab a pickaxe, but he did have the foresight to fetch a lantern for the trip. It's nothing nearly as good as Diluc's flames though, the light so weak and petering. ]

That's what I'd like to find out myself! [ Alas, he was blown out last time before any real conclusions could be drawn. ] Doesn't seem like you can venture past a certain point.

[ Kind of like the Chasm that way, all towering boulders and enchantments that rot the mind. No antics from Tartaglia, this time. Venturing in carefully, he shines the bright wick of the lantern all along the walls, light distortions bouncing where the shadows run deepest. ]

I decided I'd try my luck again. If worse comes to worst... well, who knows? Maybe you'll get that answer sooner than you think.

[ Lucia hadn't really felt compelled to check out the mines before, but here she is, standing right outside of the entrance with wide eyes. She adjusts her glasses so they sit better on the bridge of her nose, in an attempt to try and closer inspect what may be inside before she enters. What she isn't expecting is a certain other person to be here... ]

...Faust! Oh!

[ She turns to look at him. ]

What are you doing here?

I should ask you the same thing.

[ He adjusts his own glasses, looking into the mines. It's a dangerous place, or so Faust assumes. Places like this usually are. ]

I got curious about this place. Good thing I came at the right time. [ He fixes her with that Teacher Look, but it's not harsh or severe. Rather, it's soft around the edges. Very subtle, but it's enough to be noticeable. ] You weren't going to go in alone, were you?

NO! No, of course not! I'm...I'm too much of a chicken for that...

[ Which, uh, brings her to their current predicament: ]

Maybe...maybe we can go in together? I don't – I don't think I can fight or anything like that, so I may be a hindrance, but...if you'll allow me, I'll follow you in.

There's nothing wrong with being afraid. It's how you handle it that matters.

[ In short: He doesn't think less of her or anything. ]

Yeah. Let's go in together. We can cover each other's backs, so don't think of yourself as a hindrance. [ It would sound meaner if it weren't Faust, who says it so simply and evenly. ] If you notice anything I don't, let me know. I'll do the same.

[ And in they go!! What horrors await them in the mines.... ]

[ Please don't forget to pick up the pickaxes before you venture in. At least they'll have a weapon.

The entrance floor is uneventful, as it being pictured like the image you see on top of the post: well-lit, the mine cart tracks going on forever... until you come to the point where you descend into the first floor of the mines. It's pitch black.

Something also smells terrible! ]

[ Despite barely escaping without much injuries his last journey into the mines, Ellis isn't scared to come back. He has a pickaxe in hand and had dragged M-21 into it, because he's just like that. Let's get some adrenaline, homie. He also brought a small backpack with plastic containers and other small items. ]

[ M-21 likes adrenaline! Which is good, because he's basically unprepared, other than a flashlight. What? He has claws.

He sees no reason not to get right to following the tracks. ]

"What are we looking for anyway?"

[ Okay, pickaxe acquired on her end. She follows closely behind Faust after his encouragement, but when that awful stench hits, Lucia starts coughing. ]

Oh. Oh, dear. That...that smells awful.

[ Faust's grabbed a pickaxe, too, even though it's... strange to hold some sort of weapon that's not his mirror. As they proceed, he grimaces and covers his nose with his sleeve. ]

It does. [ He clears his throat. ] Let's follow it, if you can handle it.

[ It's not condescending, it's just that he knows it might be too much for some. ]

[Good afternoon, gentlefarmers. The entrance to the mines is as vacant and unassuming as usual, so how will the two proceed? Will they venture right on to the first floor?]

"Gems and treasure. Weird stuff."

[ Ellis signs that and then runs off so that he will definitely be venturing right onto the first floor with with pickaxe and flashlight. He didn't learn his lesson from last time... ]

[ Well, M-21 isn't going to let Ellis run headfirst into danger alone... he jogs quickly after him to the first floor, keeping an eye out for any gemstones, treasure, or weird stuff. What've they got here? ]

[ The stench lingers, the putrid smell of... hm. Something smells like the ocean. Maybe it's fish? Sure smells like rotten ones.

But it's still dark on the first floor. ]

[There's a distinct lack of weird stuff on the first floor, — just the occasional fallen pebble that targets Ellis specifically — the entrance to the second floor suspiciously clear. Huh. There is nary a buff fairy to be seen either, but perhaps there are interesting things to be found deeper within the mines?]

[ Hey?? Ellis gets a pebble to the head every now and then, but he just rubs his head and keeps going ahead. Deeper into the mines!!! Ellis jumps into the next floor. let's go!!!

He uses his flashlight to see what's ahead, as usual. ]

[ What the... M-21 will try to swat any pebbles he spots first out of the way, at least? Buddy, how'd you make the mines mad.

M-21 strains his keen(?) werewolf senses for anything weird as they head on in. Any sounds or signs they have company? ]

[ scheming and planning wasn't exactly one of achilles' strong suits. hence, he's basically decided to wing this whole exploration thing. he figures, how dangerous could it feasibly be? (maybe a lot). that said, he's about to enter, before he catches sight of a stranger, who may be in a similar predicament with equally similar goals.

he casually raises an arm up, an easygoing smile. ] Yo! [ he moves his spear against his shoulder idly as he looks him over. ] You the type who enjoys a bit of danger? [ obviously, this is the only way to invite someone to traverse the unknown mines with you. ]

[ yelan too doesn't see the point in rushing through this place recklessly, not when neither of them knows what to expect at the end of the tunnel.

the light from the lantern is dimmer than what she would've liked, but her eyes easily adjust to their dismal surroundings and she ensures every step she makes is steady and rooted. not at all different from the chasm, really. the only thing missing is the light from the lumenstone, but even that can go out anytime. ]

If worse comes to worst ... [ ah, but isn't that what makes this quite thrilling? she keeps a mild tone. ] Then let's hope you're not too heavy to drag along, Mr Harbinger.
