The mines, once boarded up and abandoned, have been opened back up to any would-be spelunkers to venture into in the hopes of finding gems and treasures aplenty. It is said that these mines burrow deep into the depths of the mountain and no one can tell you exactly how deep they go, but if you're feeling lucky, grab a pickaxe on your way in and find out for yourself.

The mines are a cyoa-style exploration event that can be participated in once every week until the end of the game. Results are determined via RNG and can earn your character unique items, help or hinder them with blessings and curses, or result in bodily injury if they get unlucky enough. Your character may brave the mines alone or bring a friend.

As physical injuries (excluding death) are a possible result of exploring the mines, let us know at any time if you want to retcon your results to avoid your character getting injured. If you choose this option, it will be as if your character never stepped foot in the mines, but you will not be able to participate again until the following week. Weigh your options carefully!

[ Hey?? Ellis gets a pebble to the head every now and then, but he just rubs his head and keeps going ahead. Deeper into the mines!!! Ellis jumps into the next floor. let's go!!!

He uses his flashlight to see what's ahead, as usual. ]

[ What the... M-21 will try to swat any pebbles he spots first out of the way, at least? Buddy, how'd you make the mines mad.

M-21 strains his keen(?) werewolf senses for anything weird as they head on in. Any sounds or signs they have company? ]

[Pebbles will continue to periodically rain down on Ellis' head as they proceed further into the mines. Is this divine punishment from the mine gods? If there are mine gods, then probably yes. M-21's head will escape unpebbled, at least.

The second floor seems fairly quiet as well, but of note are the 6 wooden doors lining the back wall. There is no tunnel leading down to the third floor, which might suggest the path ahead lies behind one of these doors. Hmm... What do, lads?]

[ Ellis just puts his backpack on top of his head to shield himself from the pebbles. It's fine, it's fine. Don't ask him.

Ellis points to door #2, gesturing to M-21 that he'll open this one before doing that. M-21 is free to see the door with him or open another one. ]

[ Why are there so many pebbles??? ]

Seems like this whole place is gonna come down if we stay here too long.

[ Well... they can do this efficiently. M-21 goes to open door #1 if they can do both, although he's glancing over to see if Ellis' is causing any problems. ]

[Wow! No respect for the mines at all! Ellis is always causing problems as far as the mines are concerned, and as soon as either of them walk through their respective doors (which appear to have black voids within them), they'll bonk right into each other. Fun.]

[ Oh.

Hello darkness, my old friend. He doesn't like being feeling like he's in the void ever again, so when he bumps into M-21, he pulls him out the door M-21 entered from as well as the exit for himself.

Then he goes for the third door and tries opening that.

Also, the mines haven't done shit to earn his respect!! ]

Some kind of weird magic here?

[ What if... they head for the door together. Opening two doors at once didn't seem to help, and he'd rather stick by Ellis if Ellis is making that kind of face. ]

[Sounds like M-21 is onto something! The third door opens up to reveal another pitch black void, but once that door opens, the others click. Seems they've been locked, so these two better hope the third time's the charm!

Well then, will they continue into the unknown? It's perfectly dark within the void, any light shone into it swallowed up by the inky blackness. You can't hear anything in the void either... Sussy. Maybe even spoopy.]

[ Despite Ellis making that face earlier about the void, he doesn't seem as frowning about it now, since it was expected. He holds onto M-21's hand and dash hops into the void. ]

[ Augh, creepy. M-21 is not loving the weird absence of senses. But alright, they have forward momentum. In they go!

Please don't be a bottomless void, that would be a bad day. ]

[Who knows? Maybe it is bottomless, because they go plummeting several floors through the darkness, eventually bouncing off of something that, blessedly, saves both of their asses from certain death. Will they be sore in the morning? Hella, but at least they're alive.

It's still quite dark down here, the ground springy beneath their steps, but it's not so pitch black that a flashlight couldn't illuminate this space... if they can find Ellis's. All of their belongings have scattered somewhere in this big, bouncy void. Running around in here will result in getting bounced in the air as if on a trampoline.]

[ At least he can feel something in this... void--oh. He's getting whiplash from the bouncing., but he tries very hard to find his bag. He really hopes nothing spilled out of it, considering it was zipped close. But first, flashlight. He is slowly crawling around for it. ]

Hey, we don't want to lose each other--

[ Uhhh. How is he supposed to talk to Ellis in the dark. Alright, Ellis can feel around for the flashlight, and M-21 can follow the sounds of Ellis as he pats his way around for anything else down here. Any walls nearby he could use as a guide... ]

[No walls, only the endlessly bouncy void! Ellis' bag is... somewhere, probably, but he won't have any luck finding it. As they continue to wander, they'll hear a deep, echoing groan that reverberates right down to their bones.]

[framestory]

[ Ellis isn't doing so great, but even though he's deaf, even he feels that groan. What the fuck. He'll have to ditch his bag and flashlight for now, so he attempts to crawl towards... whatever the heck that was. He's not doing a good job. ]

[ M-21 definitely hears that groan, unfortunately. But they've got nothing else to go on, so he heads that way too.

He reaches out to pat Ellis on the shoulder in warning before he takes the lead. If there's anything scary, he should probably be in front. ]

[Crawling around will eventually yield results... kinda? Ellis and M-21 will come upon a small, pointed cave with two separate but identical entrances. They can enter it if they dare, but they'll need to scrunch down and walk on hands and knees to enter it... A warm breeze emanates from the cave entrances.]

[ A warm breeze...? Ellis squints. He's not sure what M-21 is trying to tell him, but Ellis goes to crawl in anyway. ]

[feralheart]

[ He's trying to convey "wow, this seems like a bad idea!" but, well, it's dark. RIP.

If the entrances seem like they go to the same place, M-21 will go through the second one rather than fighting Ellis for the first one. It's fine, right? (This seems not fine.) ]

[Oh dear... It seems they've wandered right into the nostrils of some massive creature, and when it sneezes them out, they'll go flying back to land on its rotund belly. With a bone-shuddering groan, it sparks up a comically large match on the cave wall and squints down at them with its massive, beady eyes. It looks like the other fairies but, you know, significantly larger.]

[ Eww!! He feels so gross and what is this?? M-21 will have better luck since Ellis still can't hear anything and just stays still. ]

[ This is the grossest thing that's happened to M-21 in a minute, that's for sure. Just... going to be subtly wiping his hands off on his clothes, which are also disgusting now. Ugh.

Also RIP to both of them for M-21 being stuck as the spokesperson here. ]

[ Ellis still can't see see shit in here, so he finally starts moving around, but slowly, eventually latching onto M-21 and writes on his back with a finger: ]
