    Personality: At his foundation, Makoto is a genuinely kind, hopeful, and hard working person that throws himself completely into things that he commits to, soaks up lessons from everyone and everything around him, and is forever looking for meaning and purpose in life. While he can be awkward, naïve, and prone to overreaction, he's also adaptable, smart, good at lying, and capable of being pretty darn manipulative. In the right circumstances, he can even be competitive, surprisingly resourceful, brave, and occasionally unpredictable.

    Most of his personality evolved as a direct consequence of his time with Laurent's crew in each case, the places he visited, and everyone he's interacted with along the way. Due to his adaptive nature, he changes a lot over the course of the show and grows as a person.

    Likes: Someone that really sees him, isn't afraid to call him out on his mistakes, and is smart enough to be right about things, no matter how much he hates it in the moment. Someone to care for him but give him his space, to understand his complexities and trust issues, and someone that benefits from his affection and emotional intelligence while still being independent.

    Dislikes: ironically, assholes who don't care about other people's feelings or violate one of his Morals. And to that extreme, he also dislikes cruel people that lack any empathy and struggles with people that want to flatline fun until he can get a read on them.

    Ideal dates/venues: give him some adventure and spontaneity. Make it fun and memorable, with deep conversations, self-expression, and just the right amount of romance to tap into his inner sap.

    History: 21-year-old university student. Comes from an alternate version of earth in which different regions gain abilities with different seasons. Lucia lives in an area with a population that gains abilities during Autumn, but she's one of the "unlucky" ones who don't get any powers at all. Her parents stress about this sometimes due to external pressure from their relatives, so she's constantly trying to prove herself in other ways. She's got a passion for gaming, so she's currently studying game design. She's not very good at it, though.

    Personality: Lucia's inner battle involves her fluctuating between choosing to live as a victim of circumstance and wanting to be more than that. She doesn't think very highly of herself, but she also doesn't appreciate being looked down upon by other people. It's a conundrum she's constantly wrestling with – feeling like she should continue trying but also feel like it'll amount to nothing, ever – and that turmoil makes it hard for her to feel comfortable interacting with others. Her decision to come to Crescentview, however, is a reflection of her making an attempt to do something to improve her quality of life.

    History: Kaspar was born in Groscia, a vast underground country under the mountains, and raised under its increasingly authoritarian and theocratic government. Kaspar and his brothers had their childhoods sold to the military in exchange for a home. Kaspar (along with his brothers) became the poster children for the power that could be achieved via the program that originally brought their parents together. He was largely raised in militaristic church boarding schools until the war in the depths under the capital of Vuglodir ate up most of the teenage years he had left, with the rest finished off with the brutal cleansing of the Vair.

    He then stopped caring about his career or the government and instead began a defiant campaign of passive aggressiveness, lying, and playing stupid to avoid having to confront cavern rebels or fight anyone. The negative mark on his record even had him scratched from the marriage registries and demoted to the captain of the ghost corridor, a section of the city where nothing ever happens but the passing of glowing insects. It's boring. Yet somehow he hasn't been this happy since he was a little kid quietly watching his father work on crafting beautiful flowers of fabric between reading fantasy novels on rare holidays at home.

    Personality: Kaspar is an artistic, free spirited, and optimistically adventurous soul at heart; independent and introverted, one whose shell was molded harshly by his upbringing under the thumb of his government, but never broken by it. He prefers the comfort of the present and its little things, or the imaginings of his near future, over the dull ache of dwelling on the past or the stomach flipping uncertainty of the far future.

    In part a result of being repressed in many ways, he can be socially awkward, quieter in larger groups, and prone to day dreams of the practical and sensory sort (especially when he is unable or too unsure to do what he wants in the moment). Kaspar is kind and quiet with an effortless and confident internal sense of self in the present that results in a laid back, open demeanor that often obscures the depth of feelings he largely keeps to himself, occasional impulsiveness, and his largely one on one playfulness with those he gets closest to.

    Powers: (cw: blood!!!)
    His abilities are based on what his people call 'light', which works a lot like mana only tied directly to his soul and feelings. This manifests itself in a baseline passive increase in speed, strength, and resiliency, it's something that is turned down by concentration or direct sunlight, but is always still felt in the core of his being (until being nerfed initially!). Anyway, normally this gives his blood the power to infect inanimate objects with enough blood on them, dully able to sense them nearby, move them slightly, or halt it if they have enough layers of blood. But he has the finest control over his custom Groscian bloodletting weapons that he can sense and control to some degree without greater velocity of that of a shallow dagger stab without the assistance of guns, hands, or feet. Oh, and he can make them glow or explode (as a last resort). The only way to make this power work is for him to do whatever he feels will work (usually some combination of clapping, jumping, yelling, finger/hand gestures, whistling, calling his weapons by name or praising them quietly)

    Inventory: His full on duty uniform, two daggers, his pistol, and bullet case (with bullets?). He won't be able to use his abilities on his bullets so he won't be using them. I'm fine if you want to take his weapons away too.



    Likes: Kaspar is adaptable and despite being repressed in a lot of ways, he has had a lot of time alone (and pushed to extremes) to develop a solid sense of himself as a person. His self awareness isn't as perfect as he thinks it is, but it is well developed enough to make him potentially compatible and interested in a variety of different people. Someone that can sit together with him in the quiet moments or someone more outgoing to hold his hand in a crowd.

    That said, his most ideal (but by no means required) partner would be someone pretty different than him: A person who is more rational, organized, and outgoing than he is who can still follow him on adventures while appreciating Kaspar's practical, often nonverbal, gestures of affection. A partnership where they are both learning new things in their complimentary differences together. Someone who can join Kaspar in the moment to enjoy the simple things together, like cooking side by side or decorating a room. All of this, while they both allow glimpses into their rarer emotions. He falls the fastest for romantics and those with authentic passions/convictions/intelligence or complex people with layers to peel back to bring them out of their own shell.

    Dislikes: Anyone that puts too many restrictions on him or unironically tries to order him around, is constantly negative (even when his practical attempts to help fail), gives too much criticism on him or things he values deeply.

    He has a long fuse and all of that would take a LONG time to build up, so there is hope if he sees something deeper in a person like that because he will give some people one too many chances sometimes.

    Ideal dates/venues: An ideal date for him is a meaningful but relaxed and laid back affair, with something active to do (playing a sport, dancing, hiking, bowling, etc etc). It gives him a chance to be in a comfort zone and get to know someone without the pressure of an instant connection. Just as effective would be something artistic or beauty related, like going to an art gallery for the first time, or out exploring nature.



    Partner: I would prefer he share with someone (random), but it matters more that he's in the forest.

    History: Here, but expanding upon it: Rutile and Mitile, two brothers, are under his care, as he's their teacher and took them in when their mother died. After the last Great Calamity, Figaro, as well as the brothers and a fellow former revolutionary are called to become Sage's wizards.

    Personality: Figaro "Garcia" is a "kind" "gentle" "young" "Southern" "Doctor"; that is, aside from his first name, everything is a lie. He almost always operates in a very deceptive manner, preferring to hide his more Northern-born, ruthless, unempathetic side in favor of appearing as a young doctor who just wants a chill lifestyle. Figaro's charisma lends well to his facade, but there's always something off about him: He can appear cold and apathetic as well as unempathetic. Despite how terrible he is at his core, Figaro is, above all else, lonely, which results in his running from people when he becomes too jealous or feels as if he'll be the one left behind. Figaro also isn't entirely cold and unfeeling, because he seems to hold genuine affection toward Rutile and Mitile.

    Powers: In advance: I'm so sorry.

    Magic (and other abilities) in Mahoyaku is extremely expansive, and are outlined in a nice numbered list.
    1. Magic, in general, is drawn from the spirits. If the spirits don't like someone, then they're pretty out of luck. However, if the spirits like you, then you get big magic. There are exceptions to this, but Figaro very much draws his magic from the spirits. Further contributing to a wizard's strength is their heart. Figaro himself has a very strong heart (for better or worse), contributing more to his power. In general, younger wizards tend to find themselves a teacher; Figaro is South Country's teacher, though while residing in North Country, he took Faust Lavinia under his wing and taught him. (And Figaro is pretty smug about it.) He's not a terrible teacher, though, despite how terrible he is as a person.

    2. Each wizard has a specialty, and it can be pretty much anything. A few examples are necromancy, creation, intoxication (as in with wine and the smoke expelled from a pipe), destruction, even cursing--if you can think of it, it's probably someone's specialty. Magic is whatever the wizard makes of it, though. A wizard can do almost anything they want, with some exceptions. Bringing someone back to life (skeletons are fine) is an absolute no. Time travel is also a huge no. The spirits don't like that shit. Figaro's specialty is absolutely healing (while he has never attended medical school and does not have a medical license, he's South Country's doctor, and he's good at it), but it is suggested that he also has a thing with memory magic. He's wiped Heathcliff's memories, and most recently, he's wiped the Sage's memories because Owen got way too graphic when telling a story. Finally, Figaro has a proficiency in collecting information.

    3. Each wizard has a magical tool that they use for larger magic. For smaller magic, they don't need anything but themselves. Even bigger magic... well, the wizard best be prepared to sacrifice (literally) something important or equal to the magic. They also use brooms to fly, and each is unique to the wizard. Figaro's tool is an orb, and he's extremely capable of doing big magic. Figaro has wiped out a whole population of poisonous birds that made the South inhabitable for humans especially (wizards are fairly resistant to poisons), which obviously takes a lot of time, effort, and magical power. A wizard can change the ecosystem, can cause immense destruction... A strong wizard can be a huge boon or a devastating bane. Finally, during the first anniversary, Figaro summoned an absolutely huge tornado, described as a maelstrom--and the Sage compares him to a sea god. Yeah. Figaro strong.

    4. The most important rule is that a wizard cannot, under any circumstances, make a promise. Wizards are extremely long-lived; for example, Figaro himself is at least 2000 years old, making him one of the oldest wizards. However, if a wizard makes a promise, they risk losing their magic. For some, this means losing themselves and everything they are. If a wizard does make a promise, everyone feels it, and they know what it means. It's very much compared to a death sentence for some.

    5. Other miscellaneous tidbits:
    - Wizards can create sugar, which is able to provide some relief both physically and mentally. It's a pretty rudimentary skill.
    - Wizards are also capable of transforming into the opposite sex, and some are... more likely to do this. (Figaro is one of them.)
    - They can also transform into other people. Sometimes it's a prank. Sometimes, it leads to a huge mess, if the wizard is particularly malicious.
    - A wizard can even change into an animal, if they have the strength to.
    - Wizards can transfer mana to each other. It's an extremely finnicky process, to say the least. It's possible that one wizard will absolutely not take the other wizard's mana, particularly if they're from different countries. It's very much not advised, since there are so many things that can go wrong. Essentially, both wizards need to be compatible, need to be of generally equal power, and must not harbor ill will toward each other. If any of these are present, it... won't end well for the receiver.
    - Wizards are difficult to kill or seriously injure. They're able to recover more easily than humans. They can also adapt to extreme climates; the North wizards live in--obviously--the North, where the conditions are hazardous to normal people.
    - When wizards die, they turn into mana stones.... which can then be consumed. They retain some of the wizard's power, which in turn makes a wizard stronger when they eat it.

    Name: Noé Archiviste
    Canon: The Case Study of Vanitas

    History:
    Noé was born as a vampire of the Archiviste clan, but at an unknown point in his youth, all the vampires from the clan were eradicated–he was the only exception. After some time, he was found by an elderly human couple, but after their passing, Noé was kidnapped by a group of vampires and sold to the Teacher and introduced to his two grandchildren–Louis and Dominique de Sade. The former eventually became a curse-bearer and was ruthlessly killed by the Teacher, which, unsurprisingly, was a traumatizing event for Noé who had to witness his friend's beheading. After a couple of years, Noé got a letter from the Teacher in which he was asked to find the Book of Vanitas and learn about its true nature. In Paris, he met Vanitas, the current owner of the book, and even though they had been off to a rocky start, they eventually teamed up to cure the curse-bearers. Some of their most notable adventures include uncovering the secret laboratory in the Catacombs of Paris where experiments on human children were conducted and solving the mystery of the beast of Gévaudan. All these events lead to an encounter with Misha, a boy who was experimented on alongside Vanitas in the aforementioned secret laboratory. Since Misha had taken Dominique hostage, Noé was forced to fight Vanitas who didn't want to cooperate and let the vampire read his memories. During their fight, Dominique was rescued by Jeanne, leaving Misha no choice but to withdraw. After the grueling fight, Noé and others went back to the hotel to get some rest before the next adventure.

    Personality:
    Noé is known for his curiosity that resulted in both good and bad things happen to him. It's not only limited to new places but people as well–he gets distracted almost all the time once he arrives in Paris, truly amazed by the atmosphere of the city: the numerous sculptures, art galleries, restaurants, or even the Parisians themselves. At the same time, he remains oblivious to some aspects of social life, such as politics in the vampire world or even some concepts such as romantic love (I wish I was kidding). Noé has a strong sense of justice and always follows his hunch to figure out what is right, but it doesn't always work out–rather than consider all the options to pick the most reasonable one, he acts first and thinks second, even if the consequences of his actions might put him or someone else (Vanitas, most of the time) in danger. Even when the situation is hopeless, Noé isn't willing to compromise if it means saving someone, though–this behavior has its roots in the fact that he was helpless when his friend Louis needed him.

    Memory reading. While Noé doesn't need to drink blood to survive, he possesses a unique skill that allows him to read memories and emotions connected to them when he ingests the blood of a person.

    Enhanced strength, speed, and endurance. As a vampire, Noé has the ability to enhance his own strength, speed, and endurance. While he can do it freely, it requires changing the world formula, a concept specific to his canon. Basically, the world formula gives structure to everything in existence, and tampering with it might result in obtaining enhanced abilities or magical abilities.

    He Xuan is a cold man that is goal-oriented and antisocial. As a result, he doesn't even bother entertaining much company, if at all...in normal circumstances. He also does not suffer fools lightly, and has little interest in hollow interactions. But, now he is at a point in his life where all that remains is an emptiness that he's looking to fill.

    He's also someone with a bottomless stomach, and feeding him is perhaps one of the easier ways to get in his good graces.

    Powers:

    Clones: He Xuan can make numerous versions of himself, able to perform various activities, and such; all under his command.

    Immortality: He Xuan is immortal in the sense he does not age, and he is particularly difficult to kill lest someone gets a hold of his ashes and ensures their destruction. Even if his 'physical' form gets damaged, it will eventually come back or regenerate if his ashes aren't disposed of. Of course, this doesn't mean he doesn't experience pain, because he absolutely does.

    Martial arts skill: He knows how to fight hand to hand and with other weapons if necessary. Hell, he can even beat someone half to death with chains if he has to.

    Water manipulation: He Xuan has the ability to manipulate water to varying and rather skillful degrees; think even moreso beyond someone with a Hydro Vision can do. He is even capable of freezing it.

    Disguise/Shapeshifting: He Xuan can change his appearance/voice/gender without breaking much of a sweat. Naturally, this helps when he's employing clones, and such since he's also able to give those different appearances...and he can even turn into the appearance of different people that currently exist.

    Consumption of Ghosts & Ability Inheritance: He Xuan is able to consume ghosts and take from them their abilities. This is exemplified by when he utilizes the skill of Reverend of Empty Words, for example. The power of which can even plant curses over someone regarding misfortune that then come true in some manner if someone believes in it. Upon the afflicted being emotionally affected by it, he gains some semblance of power from their fearful state of mind, which allows him to manifest the curse into coming true. The curse is strong enough to affect family members and friends as well.

    Gaku is the leader of an idol group called TRIGGER with his fellow members Tenn Kujo and Ryunosuke Tsunashi, which is under Yaotome Productions, a company owned by his father. At the beginning of IDOLiSH7, they are one of the most popular idol groups in the country, and over the course of the series they end up forming strong relationships with IDOLiSH7 and Re:Vale. Gaku shows his support for the other groups despite the fact that they're supposed to be competing with one another, and the other groups do the same in turn.

    The bond between the members of TRIGGER, while initially off to an incredibly rough start, is strong and carries them through the hardships they face. In the third part of the main story, TRIGGER become victims of a campaign to be torn down by Ryo Tsukumo, as they are manipulated into scandal after scandal. This leads to the members getting kidnapped so that they will miss an important performance, and the pile of scandals eventually end in the termination of their contracts with Yaotome Productions. The members decide then that they will try to climb the ladder of success again on their own as an indie group.

    Personality:

    Gaku has the face of a tough guy, and can be seen as pretty aggressive with his blunt manner of speaking and tendency to curse, but in reality he's rather calm and well-mannered. Despite being extremely competitive, Gaku is kind enough that he likes to help support the other groups he's meant to be competing against. He's also a family man, using whatever small amount of free time he has to go work in his maternal grandmother's soba restaurant by helping to cook and run out on deliveries.

    Generally, Gaku is a contradiction of his appearance—good-natured, supportive, and understanding despite being a little rough around the edges.

    Owen doesn’t remember much of his early life, which is probably for the best and the worst - as a very young child, Owen was taken to a basement in the village he lived in. He was placed in this basement, empty for all but a picture book and some rats and moles skittering about, with thorny roots coming through the ceiling.

    He was left in that basement to die, of course, because he was a wizard.

    Unfortunately for everyone, the child who would become Owen did not die - not permanently, at least, and after over a century he was freed when some rowdy youths, curious about a local legend of a wizard locked away, unsealed the basement he was trapped in. The rest of Owen’s life is largely the same thing over and over again - fight, win, lose, die, come back, brief interlude to be a Disney princess - for centuries, up until he’s chosen to face the Great Calamity every year alongside 20 other witches and wizards. Then that gets slotted into the routine, up until a run in with a young knight (and wizard!) named Cain Knightley - Owen antagonizes him and his squad, attacking the other wizard and provoking him to use magic, before continuing to act on impulse and taking one of his eyes, exchanging it with his own. He effectively ruins Cain’s life with all of this, but of course Cain gets summoned to fight the Great Calamity, and the fight that year goes incredibly, laughably tits up and Owen ends up with the affliction of “turning back to that self that’s still mentally back in the basement”. The fight against the Calamity was terrible thanks to the meddling of a man named Nova, and now the wizards chosen to fight it need to fix all the damage left in the wake of the moon, themselves, and also keep next year’s battle from being even worse.

    Personality: Owen is someone who lives to be contradictory, shaped from a lifetime of trauma, dying, and always struggling to gain power in a world that loathed him for his existence. At one moment he’s cruel and sadistic, saying the most deliberately hurtful things he can say to cut someone to their core, and the next he’s supportive and offering advice or comfort (even if it’s often tinged in a very sulky, tsundere light). Everything he does is on an impulse he doesn’t quite understand, and he finds it easiest to keep people at arm’s length because he’s simply been alone for so long. The only thing he understands about people is how to upset them, so unanticipated reactions or anyone showing him any kindness leaves him at a total loss. He’s cruel, but not inherently so - he just doesn’t know any other way to be, and he sees no reason to change when he’ll be hated no matter what.

    Magic in this world is able to do just about anything, and any wizard is generally capable of learning everything you can do with magic. Everyone has their own specialties and things that come to them easily, but it is feasible to learn if they have the right teacher or the stubbornness to make it happen. It relies on the strength of the wizard’s heart - a wizard who becomes uncertain or afraid will be weaker than a wizard who is confident or filled with conviction. If a wizard betrays their heart too much, they can lose their magic entirely. This is why wizards cannot frivolously make promises - if a wizard breaks their promise, their magic is gone. Minor spells can be used without any sort of casting aid, but anything larger will require the use of an artifact or tool and an incantation, both of which are unique to the wizard, and the largest feats of all will require sacrifices, magic circles, the whole shebang. A lot of setup involved in things like summoning mythic beasts and stuff like that.

    Magical feats cover just about anything you can imagine - manipulation of the elements, healing, transformation, telekinetics, manipulation of emotions or memories (for example, being able to soothe people or incite terror with a spell, wiping memories of an event), flight and teleportation, alchemy and potion making, scrying and fortune telling… The first thing a wizard learns how to do is to create sugar, and wizard sugar has minor restorative properties, both physical and mental. There are a few things magic cannot do, though - you cannot bring back the dead or go backwards and forwards in time. You can temporarily halt things in place, essentially freezing progress through time, but any actual manipulation or time travel to change things is impossible. It’s also possible to reanimate the dead and make a skeleton army, but an actual “bringing back your dead loved one” kind of resurrection is impossible. The more powerful a wizard, the more extreme the things they can do in every field of magic, from attack magic to transformation. A weak wizard can transform their physical sex but may struggle becoming an animal, while a powerful wizard could turn themselves into a kaiju with no issue. A weaker wizard could generate bubbles, but a powerful wizard could summon a hurricane.

    Owen is a powerful wizard, in the top five of all wizards in the world, and is capable of most forms of magic. He’s really only capable of performing healing magic on himself and can only use scrying to see present events, not past or future. It’s hard to actually know how much he is capable of in terms of raw magical power, but he could easily level a village. Maybe several, even, but not an entire country. He has leveled a village before, and the magic left behind entirely tainted the land. All the plant life that grows there is warped and magical, emitting a hallucinogenic poison that can kill people quite quickly, so there’s definitely a danger if he releases his magic completely. He also has enough magic to transmute snow into a Hansel and Gretel-esque fairy tale house made of sweets and have it remain edible without going stale for centuries, so he is capable of feats that aren’t just. Massive destruction.

    However, he is also capable of quite a few things nobody else seems to be, breaking several rules on how magic works. One of those things is that Owen is capable of speaking to animals, as well as drawing animals to him - and this extends to magical beasts such as dragons or Cerberus, a three-headed hellhound. As Owen’s magical artifact is a briefcase, he’s capable of using it as a sort of pocket dimension or bag of holding, which is where he keeps Cerberus. (He says his briefcase has a portal to hell, and that’s where Cerebus comes from, but it’s… unclear if that’s just him saying things to be dramatic while confronting the big bad. All we know is he has a dog in there.)

    More importantly, Owen can come back from the dead - on account of he’s not incredibly alive to begin with. Owen has removed his heart (and therefore a part of his soul), which means that when his body suffers a fatal injury or dies in some other way (such as starvation), he will just… come back. Any body part he lost will regrow, regardless of how far the destruction went. It’s a slow process that leaves Owen vulnerable and out of commission as his body “restarts”, but he does confirm it’s an Actual death. It just simply doesn’t stick.

    Another thing about wizards is they are much sturdier than a human - they can walk off and recover from injuries that would kill most humans, such as losing a limb or having a hole punched in their chest. They can also survive more extreme climates, as evidenced by the Northern Country, where there are places so obscenely cold a human will die in a matter of minutes without magical protection. Wizards are also more resistant to poison, though in the cases of a magical toxin the strength of the wizard’s magic is more relevant than wizard physiology. The stronger a wizard, the more you can put them through the wringer. When a wizard does die, they leave behind a mana stone, or a crystalized form of their magic. While not relevant to Owen because of his whole “just comes back” deal, mana stones can also be consumed to increase a wizard’s power.

    Most wizards draw their magic from the spirits of the world and are capable of absorbing magical energy, as well as sensing it, but again Owen is an exception. Owen actually draws his magical energy from the emotions of the people around him - so the stronger the emotion, the stronger his magic will be. It’s also possible to boost another wizard’s power with the use of a “talisman” - a piece of another wizard, such as blood or hair, and these talismans can also be used to exert some level of control over the wizard they came from.

    There’s also an ability called “mana transference”, wherein a wizard can literally put their magical energy into someone to heal them from grave injuries. However, because magic is so personal and tied to spirits (which have ties to countries), it is possible to be incompatible to the mana being transferred into your body, or for the transference to be impacted by how you feel about the wizard doing it (distrust will make it unpleasant, for example), or the difference in magical power may be too great. A perfectly compatible, perfectly executed mana transfer can save someone’s life… but in the worst case scenario of the transfer coming from someone incompatible and too powerful compared to the patient, the patient will just. They’ll just straight up explode.

    History: Once upon a time, there was an Overseer, a god-like being named Renatus, who invited another one of his kind to play a game with him. Thus, he opened Personaggio, a story within the world that we made along with the characters and shoved Hien into the story. One of the characters were Ellis, formerly known as "Fifty" for what the number signified--change--because he was the key to bringing down Renatus for the goal of ending this unnecessarily cruel story. Despite being told to keep a low profile, Ellis snuck out and met Ten (they're all named after numbers here), in which they would become the closest thing to a friend Ellis can have, but Ten betrayed Ellis and gouged out his gold eyes, nearly killing him, When Ellis woke up, he saw that his eyes were replaced with green ones. He later met Renatus when the timing was too early, and the creator effectively traumatized Ellis and banished him from the story.


    Personality: Ellis is a cheerful and friendly guy who stares at pretty people all day long to be distracted from his consistent existential crisis. Being deaf doesn't get him down either since he was deaf all his life, even if it makes communication a little difficult. He's also very wary of conflict and tries to avoid it the best he can. He's secretly bitter while keeping up the face of a cheerful guy who loves physical affection, because while there's some truth to his actions, he would always pick himself over others if it comes down to it.

    Powers: Ellis has the ability to stabilize things. It covers a broad range of what could be stabilized, and things are stabilized according to what Ellis thinks is the norm. For example, if the temperature inside a house is 90 degrees Fahrenheit, he can stabilize the temperature so that it becomes 75 degrees because 75 degrees Fahrenheit is what he thinks is room temperature. If there is a furious person, he can stabilize their emotions to being calm, but not like... dead zombie-like apathetic calm. He mainly uses his powers for the most mundane things, like being around constant room temperature.

    2. Affects whatever he can get at his arm's reach

    Crow's a flippant, jokey kinda guy who flirts and gambles his way through life like the big brother best friend guy you always wished you had. Except not, because he's a bitter and angry young man driven by a need for revenge who dabbles in terrorism to get back at the guy who ruined his grandfather’s life. He's more closed up than a pull top tin with two lids, and doesn't really lean on people very easily. Which makes him a great choice for this game, naturally. He does have a soft spot for well meaning, very sincere people (like Rean) though, even if he doesn't want to admit it.

    Powers: Less powers, more... things that he can do with his ARCUS system and Orbments, which act as a magic system in the game. He can also pilot a giant mecha that only responds to him, yes Cold Steel is just like this I'm sorry.

    Likes: I've had this joked about to me, and it was kinda true – Crow's type veers between a bit insane (see, in canon, Vita Clotilde who the series implies had a complicated relationship with Crow in the past) and a genuinely good person who is doing their best (Rean, who never gives up on him and is a very sincere bean/Towa, who is in the same bracket of doing her best always). What a difference.

    He gets on pretty well with people who roll with his jokes and go along with him, but he'll really, eventually, open up to people who push and challenge him. His best friend literally punched emotions into him. Rean stubbornly chases him across the continent and never gives up on him. Roll with him, and he'll like you well enough to consider you someone he enjoys spending time with. Push back and force him out of that comfort zone where he can keep you at arm's length and... well. He'll run. Fastly. But hunt him down and wear him down and he'll be deeply loyal to you. Eventually.


    Dislikes: He is, for the most part, pretty chill. A lot of things he could get mad about (duplicity, betrayal, etc) are all things he's done himself and he'd be a hypocrite if he was outright mad about them. But! He's not a fan of people who crush others underfoot to get what they want – especially if it comes to things like... annexing an independent nation (specific), without considering the people crushed in the process.

    He has limited patience for indulging people if he doesn't get along with for whatever reason. He's not put off by people who don't like him or get short or angry with him, but if someone presses a topic he's not fond of he could become a little shorter with them.

    Also if they're clearly angling for something serious. It'll be fun to see if someone can break that barrier with him past “no” or just casual, but if it's blatant and persistent he'll run for it.


    Ideal Dates: If Crow has his way it'd be a casual affair, there'd be drinking and gambling and a good time and he'd get to vanish into the night without committing to anything major emotionally. I sure know how to pick 'em.

    He's here for the flirting and the good time, but he'd want the other person to enjoy it too.

To make a long story short, it's only due to a minor goddess known as the Maiden that the people of Desuya still exist--after watching her people commit to a massive undertaking to move the entirety of their civilization below ground to escape the changing climate, she gifted eight of their number with the magic to create water to ensure their survival. As the original eight died, their spirits remained to select another member of their small society to inherit the power; Asuka inherited this power and became a Summoner at 17 years old, shortly after his mother's death. Since then, he's been balancing taking care of his baby sisters and "managing" his younger brother with all the responsibilities he has to the people of Desuya. It's a lot but honestly? He has no regrets ♥

    Personality: Asuka is a big dumb puppy dog who just wants the people around him to be happy. He's mastered the art of being obnoxious right up to the point where someone wants to punch him and then carefully toeing that line, and he's happy to make a complete idiot of himself if it makes someone else smile. Asuka likes to live in the moment--he doesn't want to think too hard about the past or worry about the future, he just wants to drink and smoke and see how high up in the air he can hurl himself with his magic without hitting the ceiling. After all, why does he need to think too hard? He's a Summoner, and that's a life appointment he's not interested in weaseling his way out of.

    Powers: Fire magic (strong-ish) and water magic (stronger). Asuka's got a fuck-ton of raw magic power, considering he's 1/8th of a team responsible for ~12k people; he's mostly limited only by his own imagination in how he can draw on it. A sense of humor), a willingness to play, to let loose, not judgmental about what he does or doesn't know (or at least, recognizes that he's smart enough in his own way and not knowing what a sunset is doesn't make him dumb), but also: a strong sense of self. You can get away with so much if you have a strong sense of self and can somehow ground him.

But he truly does his best, because he doesn't want to settle for less.

    The translated scenes get the story across pretty well but he's a summary of the stage show that builds on it a little more:
    In the year 2205, humanity has faced an unknown calamity which has reduced their numbers. A force known as the Historical Revisionist Army sends spirits back in time to try to manipulate history while you, the player, create an army known as the Sword Army to stop them. After becoming successful enough, the Ministry of Time sends special examiners to study your performance by sending you on special missions.

    Hizen is one of these special investigators from the government and his assignment is Bunkyuu Tosahan. He helps lead a team through a twisted version of Tosa's past to find out what has caused it to change and go off record. They discover that the source is Sakamoto Ryouma, a former master of Hizen's and another sword name Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki. Sakamoto, grieving from the death of his friends in the future, wished to do things differently to save them and the Historical Revisionist Army granted it. Hizen and the others realize that the timeline is so messed up that it needs to be immediately corrected or it will become an abandoned and doomed timeline. They kill Ryouma and he, along with Hizen's other master, Okada Izo, disappear so the timeline corrects itself. Upon completing the mission successfully, Hizen gives the team a passing grade and is assigned to the citadel to continue observing them.


    Personality: Hizen is canonly described as "prickly" and that sums him up pretty well! He's direct, blunt, gets along with others poorly, and he has a short temper. He describes himself as a hollow person who can't feel but the truth is, he feels many things and simply doesn't know how to process them normally (ex: he literally does not know how to cry). He thinks the only way he can be good is by killing and even if he tried to improve, no one would ever believe he was trying to be better. Because of his poor past, he's easily won over by food, drink, and people just treating him decently (even if he reacts to it poorly because he doesn't know how to deal with it).

    Powers:
    ❀ Not-human shenanigans. Stronger than the average human, more endurance, etc. It's not amazingly strong compared to other canons but it's enough for him to basically get thrown around a bit and be okay.
    ❀ Spirit sense. It's vague in canon but basically because he's a spirit, he can sense other spirits and spirit shenanigans. He might not know what he's sensing and it's easy for him to overlook things so it isn't a perfect ability.
    ❀ True form. His true form is his sword and his well-being is connected to it. If it's in good condition, he's in good condition. If it's damaged then he's hurt. If it breaks, he dies.
    ❀ Combat. Not really a power but he's naturally skilled at fighting with a sword. He's an assassin so his speciality is night battles and fighting in closed spaces.
    ❀ Sakura fubuki. The ability to summon cherry blossoms from thin air when he's in a good mood. That's it. It doesn't do anything but doxx his feelings.

If no one else is around, he's more willing to do affectionate things like hold hands and kiss because he doesn't have to worry about people seeing and teasing him later. He honestly wouldn't mind just sitting with someone, watching the sea or the sky, and just enjoying their company.

    Personality: Seemingly the picture of a noble hero--kind, considerate, brave, friendly. All of those are true, but he's ultimately a single person who has had to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders because Destiny Said So and the pressure has put cracks in him that drive him to be overprotective and an aggressive workaholic. A guilty conscious who is a massive hypocrite about his maladaptive coping mechanisms and tendency to be overly responsible for the world, do as he says not as he does. Still under all that trauma is a person with love and curiosity for the world around him and why he's willing to give up everything for it just because someone else (prophecies) told him to.

    Powers: Syrlya's magical class is that of a Mesmer. Mesmers are mages that specialize in illusions (such as creating clones of themselves, distorting their opponents senses, or making things appear as something other than they are) and distorting reality (such as creating a dome that reflect projectiles, teleporting short distances, phasing his physical form so that attacks pass through him). His subclass is Chronomancy, which is using illusions and minor time distortion to distort his opponents perceptions of time and, in small areas, the entire flow of it (such as creating a bubble that causes enemies to move slowly in it, or creating a temporary rift that he reminds back to after a few seconds).

    Mesmers also specialize mental influence, such as disorienting people's senses and causing harm by attacking their mind directly, rather than their physical body. He has mantras, verbally charged spells that fall into this subclass and act as self-wards from external effects and offensive assaults to the mind. He isn't able to control anyone (the closest is using illusions to create a sort of hypnotic suggestion, but this only works as far as the other person can be tricked). In theory he could access someone's mind directly (I.E. creating an illusion fully in their mind only they can see) but those sorts of spells are kept in secrecy among established Mesmer groups and Syrlya doesn't know any of them.

    He's unable to create grand scale illusions or permanent breaks or changes to reality--it would require a level of magic more than he's capable of. Most spells last in the range of a few seconds to a minute, but clones can be maintained for longer because they are illusions connected to his form. They can only navigate a certain range around his presence and their actions are based entire on his will.

    All the combat professions in Tyria have healing magic of varying capabilities, including Mesmers. Overall, Syr's healing capabilities aren't much better than alleviating shallow wounds and pain.

    He also has a natural connection to plant life that allows him some influence over their growth, such as encouraging vines to grow in a specific pattern, making flowers bloom, or causing plants to grow faster than normal. The larger the plant, the longer the process, and he can't revive any plants from death--he can, however, help encourage their healing. They can innately sense things such as their state and health, but not physiological technicalities like their level of poison.

    Mesmer | Chronomancer | Sylvari + Plant Manipulation

    BIOLOGICAL STUFF: Sylvari are, literally, magic plants that take an approximate human form. This comes with some benefits owed to their physicality, such as a denser and more resilient body and the technical ability to regenerate lost body parts. They however heal at roughly the same rate as humans, so removing an appendage could take months or years to actually recover. While they have thermoreceptors, they're less adversely affected by temperature compared to a human being. Sylvari do photosynthesize, though it isn't enough to survive on by its own.

    Between Sylvari is an empathetic mental connection, but only between each other as they originate from the same mental space before being physically born. They're like a pseudo-hivemind.


    Inventory: The clothes on his back (high quality light armor, which is ultimately still just heavy cloth) and a defunct communicator because walkie-talkies don't extend across dimensions.

    History: Satoko was born as a set of twins- her brother, Yosuke, soft and gentle and slow in comparison to her unrelenting exuberance, and together the two were happy. Up until their fifteenth year where their class was kidnapped by a man who called himself the Baron, and pushed into a mutual killing game: end a life and get away with it, and you win back your freedom... at the cost of everyone else. Yosuke was the first victim, leaving Satoko heartbroken- but the class needed to stick together, so despite the slowly dwindling party she tried to take hold and do just that. Faith and good intent twisted to anger over time however, until she was no longer the ray of sunshine she had been before. Eventually the teenagers were able to lure the Baron into meeting them in the trial room for what would become the final trial, and put to death as the culprits had been every trial before that. Though the survivors remain close, they also drifted somewhat in the wake of an agony that couldn't heal, and Satoko herself had to learn how to be an only child, alongside dealing with media attention and true crime "detectives" for the group's survival and tragedy. With the pain constantly being dragged back to the surface and no one to talk to, she had been unable to heal and the rage and grief she'd felt since Yosuke was announced dead remained just as raw, her heart is left an open nerve even as she still struggles to move on from everything. Currently she works at a bakery- and is behind most of their viral publicity with her talent- and attends college.
    Personality: On the surface, Satoko comes off as a warm yet standoffish young woman... and she kind of is, not for a lack of effort on her part. Though she wants to be friendly, she's also wary of others and quick to jump to the defensive, especially with prying questions. Her temper can be quite volatile to boot, so she tends to prefer to keep to herself despite the loneliness- but she's doing her best to reign it in these days since she's been safe from the Baron for years now. Despite this, Satoko is a kind and sweet woman as well- no longer as energetic as she used to be, but she enjoys helping people and her greatest joy is baking things for other people. She doesn't like to talk about her history, and will be looking forward to at least no one knowing about her kidnapping and the mutual killing games anymore.

Her modesty is both an anchor and a weakness - she is painfully aware of the weight of her abilities, and feels that weight may drag others down with her.     Powers: Pyra can freely manipulate flames, and can use them for a wide variety of purposes from combat to cooking. She also (SPOILER) has a dormant personality resting within her: her abrasive and much more powerful "older sister," Mythra. Pyra and Mythra share a body, which they can switch off between freely, and they each have some awareness of what the other gets up to. Mythra cannot control flames, but she can move at incredibly high speeds, and she has the ability to briefly see a few moments into the future and react accordingly.

    History: Mahoyaku takes place in a fantasy realm that's composed of five countries: North, South, East, West, and Central. Every year the moon (hereby dubbed the Great Calamity) will cause the great destruction of their world, so it's up to a select group of wizards gacha-rolled by the Sage to fend it off while going out on missions to fix problems that were caused by the Calamity the year prior.

    Shylock used to be a nobleman in Western Country, back when there weren't a lot of humans to shun wizards at the time. He'd lived in the same region for centuries, even when the Bennett family fell from nobility to local lords after years of power struggles. When the Bennett family dispersed with the times and only Shylock is left, he created a bar that became exclusive for wizards as years went on, and that's where he met a certain genius philosopher by the name of Murr. He and Murr are kind of besties (but also worsties), even though Murr went against Shylock's wishes to create technology that reduces dead-wizard rocks into batteries. But then Murr, romantic asshole that he is, went so far as to get too close to the moon (aka his lover) and had his soul shatter into pieces. So Shylock, who took "I Can Change Him" quite literally, decided to take this blank-slate Murr under his wing and taught him everything he needed to know, essentially turning the philosopher into his very own catboy for his own good. That's Western wizardry for you! (laughtrack)

    Nowadays he's been chosen as the mentor of his fellow chosen Western wizards, while keeping an eye on Murr and the various shards of his soul that he'd placed in jars. And there's a lot of them where that come from :)

    Personality: Shylock is sensual, charming and refined - one would feel like they're in a nighttime lounge with how he speaks. He also talks as if he's constantly flirting with the other person, but he's just a natural tease so one shouldn't think too hard on it. That said, he's still a Western wizard, so he's still prone to being a little odd for most people to handle. He's incredibly hedonistic and he marches to the beat of his own drum, much like any other Western wizard.

    Powers: Wizards in MahoYaku use their hearts to perform magic, so there must be a right balance of a wizard's own spirit and the environment they surround themselves in. The clearer a picture they can form in their mind, the more likely their magic will succeed, and a wizard can do typical enough magic like levitation, transformation, flight - any form of magic under the sun so long as they know what they're doing. A wizard can also use their personalized magic spell to tap into their inner magic, and utilize their magic tools to help enhance it further.

    Still, it's all dependent on a wizard's strengths and specialties though, and even magic can't do the impossible such as bringing back the dead to life, time travel (freezing time is possible for a few moments though), and making something out of nothing (except sugar; a wizard starts out learning magic by making sugar first and it's not as easy as it looks). But the most important catch is that — if a wizard makes a promise and they break it, they will lose their powers forever.

    Lastly, despite the fact that wizards can live for thousands of years, they aren't completely immortal and they turn into mana stones when they die - precious jewels that can be eaten to bolster a wizard's magical power or even power some of the magical technology in their world. Moreover they can sense their impending death, whether it'll happen tomorrow or a couple years later.

    Shylock in particular is a capable wizard in his own right in terms of magical power, to the point that Figaro and Oz contemplated on killing him at one point while they were on a prowl for mana stones to eat. He specializes in "intoxicating" one's senses in his own words - using his fancy pipe, he can use the smoke to induce nightmares to a set number of people, or simply casting sleep on them to make them pass out. And of course as a seasoned bartender, he also knows how to make magical cocktails that has certain effects of a truth potion or a love potion and such.

    Also this isn't a power, but some wizards were stricken by a curious affliction after fighting the moon previously, and in Shylock's case his heart tends to catch on fire periodically. Fun!

    History: The wiki is barebones so a brief summary:

    Mahoyaku takes place in an anime fantasy land separated into four countries: Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern. Each country has extremely different relationship dynamics between the non-magical humans and the magical wizards (ranging from good to absolutely terrible), but all are threatened by a world-ending threat called The Great Calamity (IT'S THE MOON) that is fought every year by a group of Chosen Wizards and their isekai'd from Modern Times "leader" (referred to as the Sage).

    Murr himself is... a complicated weirdo in a cast of complicated weirdos. A world renowned scholar who's delved into many different fields (astronomy, philosophy, mineralogy to name a few), Murr's most notable features and accomplishments are both eccentric and a bit (very) cursed. He invented magical science technology against the wishes of his dear friend Shylock, leveraging their homeland into prosperity at the cost of essentially ripping apart the natural state of the world. Murr fell in love with the world-ending calamity he was chosen to fight, getting so close to it and its truths that his soul was literally fragmented and scattered across the world (you read that right. He fell in love with the moon. I hate that I have to type that). The "current" Murr is the remains of that love, raised from scratch by the aforementioned dear friend into something resembling a less-shitty-more-to-his-tastes person while he keeps the fragments of Murr's soul he's found in jars. Yes, their relationship is hashtag complicated.

    Nowadays, Murr spends his time fulfilling his role as one of the Sage's Wizards by quelling any disturbances that pop up around the world as a result of the Great Calamity. And, uh, he's still sometimes shitty despite being an anime catboy, but he's got his good points.


    Personality: Oh lord. You can quite briefly summarize Murr as: "The Worst."

    Excitable. Whimsical. Energetic. The remains of the once "charming" great philosopher Murr Hart have made way for a baffling cat man, who does what he pleases and indulges in all of life's mysteries and interests. Murr is best described as a mischievous headache, prone to voicing his thoughts regardless of the relevance to the current conversation, or if anyone can even understand him. While one could argue he's much more tolerable than his past self and even an... "enjoyable" person to converse with when the conversation doesn't get particularly intimate, Murr always, always, has a tendency and a need to grasp the painful roots of a scenario. Prone to saying things he shouldn't, Murr often weighs his interest and curiosity above any consequences that he's fully aware of. In the past, this was due to something resembling callous disregard; in the present, it can feel more like the playful, blunt and almost cruel curiousity of a child.

    Powers: As a wizard, Murr has access to a wide variety of magic that isn't limited to the usage of offensive spells. Flight, shapeshifting, object levitation, the creation of energy replenishing sugar -- all of it is within the possible confines of magic. Different wizards have different affinities and magical strengths, and Murr's personal skill allows him to read the memories present in inanimate objects. He also has a penchant for creating fireworks, but that's more of a personal preference. In terms of magical power, Murr lays in the upper middle in terms of strength in the cast -- below the more battle-hungry and offensive powerhouses that are the Northern Wizards, but above the less experienced, younger wizards due to his age. The fragmentation of his soul also seems to have affected his magical power. Oh, yeah. Speaking of his fragmented soul -- those pieces can take on a physical form and talk due to a Moon Curse, so just in case one Murr wasn't aggravating enough... there's a ton of them around the world. Oops!

    As for the source of all this power... Well, the source of a wizard's magic is tied to their surroundings, and to their hearts. This is why breaking things like promises results in the loss of a wizard's powers, and also why they're particularly sensitive to the setting around them. The importance of the mind and heart in the use of magic is described in canon to be akin to the use of a body when interacting with a particular object -- by visualizing your use of the tool (in this case, the vision of your spell), the stronger the spell will be. Wizards also live much longer than human beings, though they're not immune to death. They stop aging once they reach the pinnacle of their magical power and, when killed, leave behind a mana stone. The more powerful the wizard, the more powerful the stone. These can be consumed to increase one's abilities, but more recent applications involve using them to power magical technology. Again, Murr's invention. Imagine making something you're a battery for. :)

    Despite its flexibility, magic does have its limitations. Rewinding time and reviving the dead is impossible, but one can do something like "imagine time freezing" in order to stop other people's movements... which might make the more uninformed think otherwise. It's really all a matter of imagination and the personal abilities of the wizard.

    Inventory: A red beryl ring that helps to amplify his magical powers, and a moonstone that allows him to recharge it. His broomstick.

    Personality: Having the knowledge of traditions long forgotten and the expertise across many fields in Liyue culture, he's a voice to be heard in many conversations whether giving guidance or making corrections with well-sorted words and a polite tone. From his time as the God of Contracts, he has great respect for order and sees contracts as a basis of trust and fairness—it may even be his creed, as he has acted on his own to punish Kliment in Farewell, Sweet Salt despite no longer holding his previous station. Much about him is tied to the past, being haunted or blessed with impeccable memory, and he often reminisces about what used to be. Nostalgia doesn't leave him with regrets, but fondness, and it bolsters him to look to the future. Easily, Zhongli can shift from a thoughtful companion handing out interesting though useless trivia to a ruthless and just executioner, however in both cases he can't imagine being poor.

    Powers: Geo powers, even though he doesn't have a vision (the one he wears is fake). There are many accounts on Zhongli during the Archon war, before receiving his gnosis from Celestia, being strong enough to create mountain formations, shape the landscape, and that Guyun Stone Forest was created from his spears, but I'm not that interested in this aspect. He just wants to be a guy you find at a street market now.
